Brambridge House has a fascinating history spanning six centuries. The original house dates from the 16th century, but it was altered or rebuilt in the middle of the 18th century, extended in the 19th century, and damaged by fire in 1872. It was then rebuilt at the request of the owner, who created a more imposing building by adding two additional wings. In the 20th century, the home endured a number of conversions, none of which showed much sympathy for such an historic and important building.
With the aid of English Heritage (formally the Historic Building and Monuments Commission for England) and Winchester City Council's Conservation Officers, our aim is to carry out both structural and cosmetic repairs and convert the building into luxury apartments, retaining all the original ornate and decorative features.
The project involved considerable research and consultation with the Local Authority Conservation Officers, English Heritage, and Hampshire County Council.
