In 2003 Brennan Associates were commissioned by Bridgend Custodial Services, the operating company for HMP & HMYOI Parc, to develop proposals to increase the population of the prison by 200 adult males.

Proposals were submitted to Her Majesty’s Prison Service for a new House unit of two wings and extensions to the existing Amenities Building to provide additional regime space. To support the increased population, we redesigned the kitchen, increased the Visits Hall, and, where available, provided extra staff accommodation and facilities.

Known as a DCMF (Design, Construct, Manage and Finance) project, procured under the UK Governments Private Finance Initiative, HMP & HMYOI Parc is operated by Securicor Custodial Services.

Parc Prison was one of the first private prisons to be operational within the UK. Opened in 1997, the prison provides 800 Cat B male places for Welsh prisoners. The project was the first signed PFI project for the Home Office, representing a ground breaking change in prison procurement for Her Majesty’s Prison Service.
