Linden Avenue

This residential design project presented interesting challenges due to its location.  The property in the southeast of Dorchester lies within the ancient Roman Town boundary and the Dorchester Conservation Area.  We worked closely with the Local Planning Authority to ensure that proposals were sympathetic to the neighborhood and adjoining properties.

The client’s brief was three-fold: to regenerate the under-developed town centre site, maximise the potential capacity of the brown field site in accordance with Planning Policy Guidance 3, and create modern, flexible dwellings.

Our design featured 8 terraced townhouses, each with two half stories, accommodation in the roof space, and garages under the building with direct access to each home.  The design of the building has a contemporary feel, though we used the same rhythm and detailing of the original 19th century properties that surround it to create a tangible link between old and new.

We retained boundary walls and many of the trees, and enhanced the area with new shrubs and semi-mature trees that brought a degree of privacy to each residential space.
