Client:
Mr Gould

Contract:
Feasibility, Detailed Planning, Construction drawings, tender doc’s.

Construction Cost:
£600,000

Objectives:
Our client’s brief was to create a large modern dwelling, a home for him and his family to live in. To comprise 4/5 bedrooms with en-suites, large open plan kitchen dining area, formal lounge, family room, study / office and library.

Description:
The semi-circular site slopes from North to South, this together with the location of two significant trees defined the layout and shape of the building. Essentially cruciform in plan the design utilises the slope of the site allowing for a dramatic triple height entrance hall. At the bottom of the stairs glazed doors and screens divide the living accommodation up into separate rooms, the screens can be folded back to create one large open plan space. On the entrance level there is a library with mezzanine study / office accessed by a spiral stair. All the bedrooms are located on the upper floors.

Conclusion:
The scheme was formed by the shape and restrictive nature of the site, forcing the design to wrap around and in-between the trees creating a unique design response for this particular site. A blend of traditional and contemporary styles, this house fuses both successfully. The house is matched beautifully by the surrounding landscaping with formal lawns, planting, pools, stream and bridge.

The scheme was granted approval in February 2004 and building work completed in Autumn 2005.
